Customize Your AI Output: Tone, Length, and Style Settings
Learn how to configure Estimint's generation preferences to match your brand voice, from professional auction descriptions to casual marketplace listings.
One AI, Many Voices
Different selling platforms call for different writing styles. A formal auction catalog needs precise, measured language. An eBay listing should be keyword-rich and scannable. A Poshmark description can be conversational and fun.
Estimint's Generation Preferences let you control how the AI writes, so every listing matches your brand.
Where to Find Preferences
Go to Settings in your dashboard sidebar, then click the AI & Listings tab. You'll see the Generation Preferences card (available for Standard and above users).
Tone
Choose from three writing styles:
- Professional — Formal, detailed descriptions suited for auction catalogs and high-end consignment. Uses precise terminology and avoids colloquialisms.
- Casual — Friendly and approachable. Good for eBay, Facebook Marketplace, and general online selling.
- Catalog — Bulleted specifications and factual identifiers. Ideal for auction houses, estate sales, and INAD-conscious sellers.
Description Length
Control how much the AI writes:
- Concise (~50 words) — Just the essentials. Perfect for items where photos do the talking.
- Standard (~200 words) — The default. Covers materials, style, condition, and key selling points.
- Detailed (~400 words) — Comprehensive descriptions with provenance context and thorough condition notes. Ideal for high-value items.
Value Estimates
Choose how the AI approaches pricing:
- Market Range — Returns a realistic low-high range based on comparable sales.
- Conservative — Leans toward lower estimates. Useful if you prefer to set minimum bids below market.
Words to Avoid
Enter comma-separated words or phrases that the AI should never use. Sellers often exclude:
- Generic superlatives ("amazing," "stunning," "gorgeous")
- Terms that imply guarantee ("authentic," "genuine" — unless you've verified)
- Marketplace-specific words that don't apply to their platform
Custom Instructions
Free-form text where you can add any rules for the AI to follow. Examples:
- "Always mention dimensions if visible"
- "Include the phrase 'Free shipping' at the end of every description"
- "Never mention competitors by name"
- "If furniture, mention whether it requires assembly"
Maximum Title Length
Some platforms have character limits for titles. eBay allows 80 characters. AuctionFlex fields may be shorter. Set your limit here and the AI will keep titles under it.
Description Suffix
Text that gets appended to every description automatically. Useful for:
- Return policies: "All sales are final."
- Shipping notes: "Ships within 2 business days."
- Legal disclaimers: "Colors may vary slightly from photos."
Applying Preferences
Preferences apply to all new listings automatically. They don't change existing listings — those keep whatever settings were used when they were generated. You can always override preferences per-item when regenerating.
